How many students apply for USAFA’s Summer Seminar

Selection for Summer Seminar is very competitive. For 2018’s program, there were approximately 3,250 applicants. The selection team considers the “whole person concept” in making its final decision. Please remember that Summer Seminar is a recruiting program only and the selection or non-selection decision does NOT influence the student’s application to the Air Force Academy.

If I am injured prior to the beginning of my Summer Seminar session, can I still participate?

Most likely not. If you cannot complete basic physical exercise, cannot move without assistance (crutches, wheelchair, brace, cast, etc.), cannot ascend or descend stairs on your own at a normal pace, cannot support your body weight on your wrists by pull up or push down with your wrists, please contact a Summer Seminar representative at Summer.Seminar@usafa.edu as soon as possible but no later than four days from arrival. Physical limitations such as these will prevent you from participating and you will be asked not to come, or to return home at your own expense if you arrive with an injury. We want to ensure you are able to get the most out of your Summer Seminar experience. Those students who attend but do not heed this warning and suffer further injury may impact their medical evaluation towards their USAFA application. For injuries that occur at Summer Seminar, students will be taken to the nearest medical facilities via nurse or 911 decision and will be billed for all medical practices deemed necessary by medical professionals. There is not an Emergency Room on USAFA.

I have a food allergy or require a special diet. Can I still attend?

While a food allergy does not immediately disqualify you from attending, we will evaluate allergies on a case by case basis. USAFA cannot alter meals to meet your allergy or personal preference requirements (such as Vegan, Gluten free, dairy/nut free, etc.). Students should be aware that all food at USAFA’s dining hall is prepared in the same environment. Shellfish, nuts, dairy, wheat products and other potential allergens are all prepared in the same kitchen where the risk of cross-contamination is high. Due to health and safety factors coupled with DoD Medical Standards, students with food allergies may be disqualified from participating in Summer Seminar. Those students who attend but do not heed this warning and suffer an allergic reaction will be taken to the nearest medical facilities via 911 decision and will be billed for all medical practices deemed necessary by medical professionals. There is not an Emergency Room nor are Epi- Pens available on USAFA.

Does the likelihood of acceptance depend on how early I submit the application?

Every application will be considered equally after the final deadline, regardless of the date it was submitted. We encourage you to take the time to submit a thorough application.

I cannot find flights to Colorado Springs; can I fly into Denver?

Each attendee is responsible for arriving at USAFA on time. Air Force Academy shuttles will run between Colorado Springs Airport and the Academy campus (approximately a 30-45 minute drive one way) for a limited time on arrival day (typically midday). If you fly into Denver, commercial shuttles are available (at a cost) for attendees to schedule on your own to the Colorado Springs Airport. Alternatively, you can coordinate ground transportation directly to Arnold Hall from Denver or Colorado Springs (particularly if the flight is delayed or a late arrival).

What does it mean if I am placed on the wait list?

If you are placed on the Summer Seminar wait list, you are still being considered for attendance to the program. Should another attendee forfeit their acceptance, the next individual on the wait list will be invited to Summer Seminar as soon as possible. Wait list invitations will end at least two weeks prior to the session start date.
