Athletics

Be a Part of a Team from Day One

Physical strength is just as important as mental strength at the United States Air Force Academy. Every cadet is expected to play Division I intercollegiate sports or participate on an intramural team, is enrolled in physical education classes, and is tested on their physical fitness each semester.

Athletics Are Where Leaders Emerge

Athletics are a critical part of the U.S. Air Force Academy experience. As a result, the athletic facilities here are some of the finest in the nation. Our athletic complex includes the Cadet Gymnasium, the Cadet Field House, the Holaday Athletic Center, the Falcon Athletic Center and a number of outdoor playing fields complete with a dedicated staff.

In addition to managing a full academic load, cadets must maintain a high level of physical fitness and participate in athletic competition.

Similar to a GPA in academics, cadets are required to maintain a cumulative 2.0 Physical Education Average (PEA) to graduate. The PEA is a composite score of a cadet’s physical education class grades, physical fitness test scores and aerobic fitness test scores.

For more info, visit the Athletics page at USAFA.EDU.

The U.S. Air Force Academy’s extensive athletic program includes:

  • Intercollegiate and intramural sports
  • Club sports
  • Physical education courses
  • Physical fitness tests

Athletic participation is a vital part of strengthening leadership potential as it develops courage, initiative, camaraderie, followership and the will to win.

Division I Sports

The U.S. Air Force Academy has 28 different men’s and women’s NCAA teams that compete in Division I.
